We had a great visit. The weather was mostly awesome and on Memorial Day we visited the 9/11 Memorial. I got a little tired of seeing Facebook posts reminding me of the reason for the three-day weekend. As if I could forget. As if I don't spend a lot of time blocking the whole reason out of my mind. Of course I am thankful. My Father-in-law served in WW2 and Korea. My brother was a Marine for four years. I am very grateful for their service and for all of the sacrifices people have made over the years. I just imagine that most Moms of soldiers don't like to dwell too much on this aspect of serving.
As soon as we returned, he had an appointment with one of the Sergeants to go over his paperwork and make sure everything is in order for the big day. He has picked up his last paycheck. He has not, however, started cleaning his room. Perhaps that's for the best. When he starts doing that, there will be no denying the fact that he is about to leave.
